OPEN CALL

SUMMER 2027 INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY EXCHANGE W/ ATLAND (WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS, USA) & MOULIN/BELLE (PÉRIGORD, FRANCE)

» Application deadline 15 October 2026 (application is at the bottom of this page)

Atland and Moulin/Belle are partnering up to offer an international self-directed artist-in-residence program for one group of dance artists/collaborators in 2027. The selected artist group will be awarded a week-long research residency period in Périgord, France from May 4-11, 2027 and a week-long residency in Western Massachusetts in August 2027 (we ask your date preferences in the application), culminating in an invited public showing. Both residencies provide a remote setting, allowing artists the opportunity to work in relative seclusion. The residencies offer free lodging and dance studio space for contemplation and productivity, and is ideal for artistic research and collaboration.

Artists are not required to produce a specific outcome during their residencies, but are invited to share their work in community however they see fit for their process. This could take shape in a showing, an artist talk, a pop-up installation or an open studio. Artists are in charge of funding their own travel arrangements and groceries. The chosen artist group will be awarded a total of $500 to go towards travel. There is a small non-refundable application fee of $10 that will go towards administrative costs, with any remainder going towards the chosen artists. NOTE: Artists working with a group of more than two people will be prioritized. Groups of up to five collaborators can be accommodated. The lead artist applying is required to be a dancer/choreographer, and the members of the collaborative can be dancers and/or working in different disciplines. The project must be movement-focused since the residencies are providing dance studios.

Please note that since Atland is in a rural area, your group will need at least one vehicle to get around town, to the studio, and to the grocery store. At Moulin/Belle, you will be within walking distance of the weekly green market, grocery, pharmacy, butcher, bakery, etc.

The Residency Exchange Program Includes:

  • Free accommodation and dance studio facilities at each artist residency

  • Orientation and introduction meeting at each artist residency

  • Artist presentation on the Atland & Moulin/Belle Residency websites and social media channels

  • Opportunities for public presentations and artist talk at Atland

  • Time and space for artistic research, development and production

  • $500 artist stipend (this can go towards travel and is the total amount for both residencies; award will be given on the last day of the August residency)

Applications for residency stays in 2027 will be reviewed after the deadline October 15, 2026. Applicants will be notified by email before November 1, 2026.
