OPEN CALL
SUMMER 2027 INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY EXCHANGE W/ ATLAND (WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS, USA) & MOULIN/BELLE (PÉRIGORD, FRANCE)
» Application deadline 15 October 2026 (application is at the bottom of this page)
Atland and Moulin/Belle are partnering up to offer an international self-directed artist-in-residence program for one group of dance artists/collaborators in 2027. The selected artist group will be awarded a week-long research residency period in Périgord, France from May 4-11, 2027 and a week-long residency in Western Massachusetts in August 2027 (we ask your date preferences in the application), culminating in an invited public showing. Both residencies provide a remote setting, allowing artists the opportunity to work in relative seclusion. The residencies offer free lodging and dance studio space for contemplation and productivity, and is ideal for artistic research and collaboration.
Artists are not required to produce a specific outcome during their residencies, but are invited to share their work in community however they see fit for their process. This could take shape in a showing, an artist talk, a pop-up installation or an open studio. Artists are in charge of funding their own travel arrangements and groceries. The chosen artist group will be awarded a total of $500 to go towards travel. There is a small non-refundable application fee of $10 that will go towards administrative costs, with any remainder going towards the chosen artists. NOTE: Artists working with a group of more than two people will be prioritized. Groups of up to five collaborators can be accommodated. The lead artist applying is required to be a dancer/choreographer, and the members of the collaborative can be dancers and/or working in different disciplines. The project must be movement-focused since the residencies are providing dance studios.
Please note that since Atland is in a rural area, your group will need at least one vehicle to get around town, to the studio, and to the grocery store. At Moulin/Belle, you will be within walking distance of the weekly green market, grocery, pharmacy, butcher, bakery, etc.
The Residency Exchange Program Includes:
Free accommodation and dance studio facilities at each artist residency
Orientation and introduction meeting at each artist residency
Artist presentation on the Atland & Moulin/Belle Residency websites and social media channels
Opportunities for public presentations and artist talk at Atland
Time and space for artistic research, development and production
$500 artist stipend (this can go towards travel and is the total amount for both residencies; award will be given on the last day of the August residency)
Applications for residency stays in 2027 will be reviewed after the deadline October 15, 2026. Applicants will be notified by email before November 1, 2026. For questions regarding the residency program or application process, please contact info@torilawrence.org. Detailed information is below, and the application for our residency exchange program is at the bottom of this web page.

ABOUT ATLAND
Over 40 acres of solitude tucked in the hilltowns of the western Massachusetts Berkshires -- boasting warm sunrises over the distant hills, lush forest for hiking and meandering river frontage on Bronson Brook and walking distance to the Westfield River to wade and soak in the cool mountain water or fish for native trout! We have over a mile of beautiful trails that were created around the main home -- a local architect designed masterpiece boasting a wonderful asian influence yet handcrafted from the very timberstock off the land on which it sits lending a refined rustic twist. 25 Min to Northampton and 10 min to the Berkshires! You can hike or bike to the best swimming holes around. Come escape and breathe in our cool clean mountain air :)

We encourage artist collaboratives to apply (priority will be given towards groups of 2-5). We can accommodate up to 5 artists (including the choreographer/lead artist), and the same artists need to attend both residencies.
This residency exchange is for artists working in the field of dance/movement. The work can be multidisciplinary and collaborators can work in fields other than dance, but the studio we are providing is for dance research. Artists are in charge of bringing their own materials.

You are responsible for all meals.
At Moulin/Belle there is a weekly green market, grocery, pharmacy, butcher, bakery, wine cave and more, all within walking distance. There is a pizza restaurant, one french restaurant, one local pub, as well as food trucks on Monday and Wednesday.
At Atland, you can drive to local farm stands, grocery co-ops, bakeries, general stores, restaurants, and breweries where you can eat. We’re in the Berkshire foothills and Pioneer Valley, so we’re surrounded by farms and beautiful views. You’re also welcome to anything in our garden!

Residencies are only a week long, so artists should not need visas unless they are wishing to remain in the country for traveling before/after the residencies. Artists are responsible for applying for visa permits on their own.
